Joe Frank, one of my favorite storytellers, is back on the radio today with a special show called ‘Dreamers,’ which he is producing for KCRW’s Independent Producer Project UnFictional. According to Frank, “‘Dreamers’ includes stories about a family’s tragic visit to Palestine, a man who attends a dinner party after learning he might be dying, and a contemplation of different perspectives on time.”

These international events are based on and inspired by France’s Fête de la Musique, a national music festival inaugurated in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture.

Lummis Day 7 – The Festival of Northeast Los Angeles

This weekend Northeast LA is celebrating its history and diverse culture with music, dance, and poetry at the 7th Annual Lummis Day Festival. Named after Charles Fletcher Lummis (1859–1928), who was the Los Angeles Times’ first city editor, founder of the Southwest Museum, prolific author and historic preservation activist, among other distinctions, the festival is a tribute to its namesake’s embrace of multicultural inclusiveness, appreciation of history and the arts.

My family loves the REDCAT International Children’s Film Festival. The selection of shorts is always excellent, the audience’s energy and enthusiasm is infectious and the theater offers an intimate place to immerse yourself in wonderful stories from around the world.

I highly recommend you attend one or more screenings during the festival’s two-weekend run. If the films are anything like the ones I’ve seen in the past, you won’t be disappointed.

Today the LA Conservancy begins selling tickets to its members for the 26th Annual installment of Last Remaining Seats (LRS), the hugely popular festival that brings classic films and live entertainment to historic theaters in the LA area. I’ve attended this event in the past and always had a great time. Not only do you have the opportunity to watch wonderful films on the big screen, but you’ll experience them in some of the most beautiful movie palaces ever built in this country.
