Sometimes the most compelling stories are the ones unfolding right in our own backyard. Such was the case for Burbank-based documentary filmmaker Anne Davis O\u2019Neal<\/a>. In 2010 she learned about a group of Los Angeles area opera singers who gathered weekly at Caf\u00e9 322 in Sierra Madre to share their love of the centuries old art form.<\/p>\n

Their commitment to music, family and tradition resonated with O\u2019Neal, so she invested three years of her life and her own funds to produce and direct \u201cSing Your Own Song: An Opera Love Story.\u201d The 60-minute film explores the singers\u2019 collective struggle to maintain their tradition when Caf\u00e9 322 was forced to close and delves into some of their personal lives.<\/p>\n

The documentary had its broadcast premiere July 3rd, 2016 on PBS SoCal (KOCE). Since then it\u2019s had periodic screenings around greater Los Angeles. If you\u2019ve never seen the film, now is your chance. It’s screening this coming weekend and the director will be in attendance for an audience Q&A. The film is suitable for all ages.<\/p>\n
