Enter William Mulholland, the first superintendent of the new municipal Water Department. It\u2019s even been memorialized in <span style=\"color: #262626;\">Roman Polanski\u2019s<\/span> classic film <em>Chinatown<\/em> \u2013 and yet, there are many stories and perspectives related to this important facet of local history that are not well known but equally deserving of attention.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #262626;\">Looking to fill that gap and provide a more nuanced perspective on this topic is a new self-guided, downloadable audio tour through Owens Valley, California called<\/span> <em><span style=\"color: #262626;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thereitistakeit.org\" target=\"_blank\">There It Is\u2014Take It!<\/a><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #262626;\"> Produced by <\/span><span style=\"color: #262626;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kimstringfellow.com\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Stringfellow<\/a>, an artist\/educator residing in Joshua Tree, California,<\/span><span style=\"color: #262626;\"> this resource examines \u201cthe controversial social, political and environmental history of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. The tour illuminates various impacts this divisive water conveyance infrastructure has created within the Owens Valley over the last one hundred years of [the] aqueduct\u2019s existence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #262626;\">The audio tour is currently available for <a href=\"http:\/\/thereitistakeit.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">download<\/a> on the <\/span><em style=\"color: #262626;\">There It Is\u2014Take It!<\/em><span style=\"color: #262626;\"> web site. While I\u2019ve listened to some of this fascinating online resource and highly recommend you do the same, I really look forward to experiencing it when I next travel along US Route 395.
