And yet, these citizen-, outsider-, amateur-scientists have been around for decades, exploring a wide variety of serious questions.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"thumbnail-image-float-right ssNonEditable\"><span><a href=\"javascript:showFullImage('\/display\/ShowImage?imageUrl=%2Fstorage%2Fjournal-images%2Fartistsphotographersfilmmakerswriters%2FJCarter_Diagram.jpg%3F__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION%3D1349992238835',608,600);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/storage\/thumbnails\/7112123-20601252-thumbnail.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1349992238836\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span>One such person is James Carter, an outsider physicist who is the subject of a documentary film called <span style=\"color: #262626;\">&ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/physicsonthefringe.com\/page\/film\" target=\"_blank\">It&rsquo;s Jim&rsquo;s World &hellip; We Just Live In It<\/a>,&rdquo; by<\/span> Margaret Wertheim, Director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theiff.org\/main.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Institute for Figuring<\/a> (IFF), and Cameron Allan. The IFF describes the film as &#8220;a phantasmagorical portrait&#8221; of an idiosyncratic man that &#8220;&#8230;is at once intimate and cosmic.&#8221; If this sounds as interesting to you as it does to me, I highly recommend you catch this film tonight.
