Named after <a href=\"http:\/\/socalhistory.org\/biographies\/charles-fletcher-lummis.html\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Fletcher Lummis<\/a> (1859&ndash;1928), who was the Los Angeles Times&rsquo; first city editor, founder of the Southwest Museum, <\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">prolific author and historic preservation activist<\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">, among other distinctions, the festival is a tribute to its namesake&rsquo;s embrace of multicultural inclusiveness, appreciation of history and the arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">The multi-site event will take place at the <a href=\"http:\/\/socalhistory.org\/historical-sites\/lummis-home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lummis House<\/a> (aka El Alisal), built by Lummis himself from arroyo stone, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/heritagesquare.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heritage Square Museum<\/a>, <\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">which features eight historic Victorian era structures and explores the settlement and development of southern California from the late 19th Century into the early decades of the 20th Century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">The festival kicks off at the Lummis House with poetry readings by <\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">Suzanne Lummis, granddaughter of Charles Lummis, Mary Fitzpatrick, Judith Pacht, Katie Ferris, Ilya Kaminsky and Hector Tobar. A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lummisday.org\/2012\/2012-EventArtists.html\" target=\"_blank\">group art exhibition<\/a> then follows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">Running concurrently with the art show is a series of performances on three stages at the nearby Heritage Square Museum.
