Built in 1932 and constructed of concrete, the bridge\u00a0is seismically vulnerable due to a rare chemical reaction that has weakened its cement supports. As a result, the city\u2019s Bureau of Engineering is leading a $420 million <a href=\"https:\/\/d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net\/6stbrp\/pages\/1\/attachments\/original\/1438795317\/6thStreet_halfpage_2015_v9.pdf?1438795317\" target=\"_blank\">project<\/a> to replace the bridge with a new one designed by Los Angeles architect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mmaltzan.com\/projects\/sixth-street-viaduct\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Maltzan<\/a>. Organized by LA Councilmember Jose Huizar, the 6<sup>th<\/sup> Street Bridge Farewell Festival promises to be a fun and\u00a0memorable\u00a0event.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees can look forward to a range of live music performances by:<\/p>\n<p>War | Aloe Blacc | Graciela Beltran | Angela &amp; Leonardo Aguilar |\u00a0Bullet &amp; Snowfox | Buyepongo | The Cold &amp; Lovely | Subsuelo.<\/p>\n<p>The family-friendly event will also include children\u2019s games and activities, food trucks, community booths, live mural paintings by local artists, as well as 6th Street Bridge Art exhibits from <a href=\"http:\/\/artsharela.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Art Share L.A<\/a>.
