If you\u2019re not familiar with this book series, I highly recommend you check them out. Mosley is a master storyteller who is adept at intertwining well-drawn characters with postwar LA social history.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Each Easy Rawlins book shines a light on the African American experience at a specific time and place (e.g. the 1965 Watts Riots in Little Scarlet). They provide a window into the lives of regular people dealing with the wide range of problems that life throws at them and make you really care about the characters. <em>Rose Gold<\/em> continues in that tradition. According to the Random House synopsis, \u201cIn this new mystery set in the Patty Hearst era of radical black nationalism and political abductions, a black ex-boxer self-named Uhuru Nolica, the leader of a revolutionary cell called Scorched Earth, has kidnapped Rosemary Goldsmith, the daughter of a weapons manufacturer, from her dorm at UC Santa Barbara. If they don&#8217;t receive the money, weapons, and apology they demand, &#8220;Rose Gold&#8221; will die\u2014horribly and publicly.
