Cinephiles in Los Angeles have many options when it comes to experiencing the wide range of moving image story telling that can be found in domestic and international films, both new and old. One of my favorite organizations that regularly offers noteworthy programming is NewFilmmakers Los Angeles<\/a> (NFMLA), a non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing innovative works by emerging filmmakers from around the world.<\/p>\n

This weekend NFMLA is hosting the NewFilmmakers Los Angeles Film Festival<\/a>, an opportunity to screen works by up and coming independent filmmakers from the United States, South Korea and Spain. Three of the films were produced by local talent.<\/p>\n

So what can you expect if you attend the festival? Here is a brief description of just two of the films that will screen on Saturday:<\/p>\n

ALDO – Director Ross Kolton (feature)\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Aldo is an independent hair stylist\u00a0living in Echo Park, who, after placing a do or die bet on a basketball playoff series, finds himself in deep trouble with an underground loan shark.<\/p>\n

Aldo began its journey as a learning experiment where the crew followed around a real hairstylist in his daily life. Eventually the filmmakers realized that they had something great, and turned their unscripted footage into a feature length film with no budget.<\/p>\n

Director Ross Kolton has worked as a director, camera operator, and editor on shorts, music videos, and online content for companies such a Vice, E!, and the Deathsquad network.<\/p>\n

The film stars Dane Mazzei, Jon Abrahams (Non-Stop, Hitchcock, Meet the Parents) and Patrick Brennan (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn).<\/p>\n
