If you’ve been following the 6th Street Viaduct Replacement Project, you probably know that the old bridge is being demolished because a chemical process in the cement supports, known alkali silica reaction, has made the structure seismically vulnerable. While demolition is well underway, it’s far from complete, which means the project is still generating a lot of rubble.

In their ongoing effort to keep the public engaged in this $449 million project and connected to the storied bridge, Councilmember José Huizar and the City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Engineering are hosting Rock Day LA. Attendees will be given free pieces of the old viaduct along with Certificates of Authenticity. They’ll also be able to enjoy food, music and other activities, as well as see what the new, Michael Maltzan designed, viaduct will look like when it’s completed in 2019.

Where: 585 S. Santa Fe, Los Angeles. Next to the Sixth Street Viaduct.
Parking is limited so if you can get to this event by public transportation or some other means all the better.
