Now that AEG has cancelled its plans to build a football stadium adjacent to the convention center in downtown Los Angeles, the city is moving forward with plans to expand and improve the existing facility. Central to that effort is the selection of a design team – a process that is well underway.
This week the city and the Los Angeles Department of Convention and Tourism Development made public renderings of convention center makeovers created by three design teams. They include:
Populous and HMC Architects:
AC Martin Inc. and LMN Architects
Gensler and Lehrer Architects
According to Gary Lee Moore, the City Engineer, “We are very pleased with the creative and thought provoking proposals that the three teams produced. The process has provided the city with designs that are specific to our climate and civic identity, and reflects the merging of the new with what exists today.”
