Made in L.A. – 60 Los Angeles-based Artists Strut Their Stuff

The Los Angeles arts scene is one of the most vibrant in the world. Long known for its embrace of experimentation and innovation, the city’s community of artists is as diverse as its population. To recognize and support this rich talent pool, the Hammer Museum has organized Made in L.A. 2012 in collaboration with LA><ART, the museum’s first large-scale biennial survey of work by Los Angeles-based artists.

This exhibition includes work by 60 artists and features figurative and abstract painting, sculpture, video installation, site- and situation-specific works, photography, works on paper, and a series of performances and public programs. The majority of these works were created specifically for Made in L.A. 2012.

To broaden the exhibition’s audience and complement works shown at LA><ART and the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery at Barnsdall Park, two of the three venues hosting Made in L.A. 2012, a group of artists will produce billboard projects at various locations around the city. They include:

  • June: Slanguage
  • July: Roy Dowell
  • August: Meg Cranston

Hollywood Blvd. (at the entrance of Barnsdall Park)
