In a September 24th post, I wrote about how a team from The Getty and LACMA has temporarily relocated the Eames House living room to LACMA for the exhibition ‘Living In a Modern Way: California Design 1930-1965.’ That exhibit is the first major study of California midcentury modern design and is part of Pacific Standard Time, a collaboration of more than sixty cultural institutions across Southern California that have come together to tell the story of the LA art scene’s birth.
According to the Eames Foundation, while the living room’s contents are offsite, it “…will perform work on the 60+ year old house and will restage the living room according to vintage photographs taken during Charles and Ray’s earliest years in their home.” Now you can be among the first to experience the living room as it was when Charles and Ray first moved into their now iconic house. All proceeds will directly benefit work under the Eames Foundation’s 250-year preservation plan.
