The LA art scene got off to a fast start this year with photo l.a. and LA Art Show, among many other noteworthy events and happenings. Now comes Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC), the youngest show to emerge on the region’s January arts calendar. ALAC is an international contemporary art fair presenting 70 established and emerging galleries from around the world, with a strong focus on Los Angeles galleries.
Participants plan to showcase some of the most dynamic recent works from their roster of represented artists, offering a cross section of what is happening in contemporary art making. Of particular note is the inclusion of a dedicated Solo Artist Projects section. I think this is a very exciting addition to the show because it provides an opportunity for attendees to delve deeper into the work of a small group of artists than is often possible at an art fair.
Art Los Angeles Contemporary also hosts a comprehensive programming series, including artist talks, museum curator led panel discussions, and an artist film screening and performance series. Special events are staged on site at the art fair as well as throughout the city in satellite locations.
Whether you’re an art collector, curator, and / or patron of the arts, you’re bound to find something at this show that’s of interest to you.
