Neon and Animal Sex for Valentine’s Day? Only in LA!

If you feel like you’ve been celebrating Valentine’s Day the same way every year, perhaps it’s time to try something different. Here are several events that promise to make this year’s celebration one that you and your loved one will remember.

Sweetheart Neon Cruise

Woo your loved one with an unforgettable evening under the neon lights and stars of L.A. on the Sweetheart Neon Cruise organized by the Museum of Neon Art.

Imagine cuddling up, drinking champagne, and whisking by historical neon signs and architectural landmarks of the Broadway Theater district, Chinatown and Hollywood—all on a British open top, double-decker bus.

Before boarding, have your picture taken in front of the museum’s throbbing neon heart! MONA’s expert tour guide will add the perfect icing to the cake with three romantic-themed stops at the Dresden Room featuring the long-time singing jazz couple, Marty and Elayne.  Then, switch it up with a Bonnie and Clyde venture to Barney’s Beanery in WeHo, and a secret surprise third stop!

Sex and the City Zoo 2

If you tend to think of the Los Angeles Zoo as a place just for children, this event just might change your mind. The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) is sponsoring ” Sex and the City Zoo 2,” a Valentine’s Day event celebrating animal mating, dating and cohabitating.

The lighthearted affair begins with a reception featuring tempting desserts and alluring wines followed by a provocative presentation by Zoo veteran Jason Jacobs with insights about the pros and cons of relationships vs. staying single in the animal kingdom. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Zoo’s mission of wildlife preservation and conservation.

Jacobs, L.A. Zoo’s director of public relations and marketing, has worked in zoos since he was 13 years old. “Spending almost every day of my life in a zoo for more than twenty years and coming of age amid a menagerie has given me a unique perspective on the birds and the bees,” he says, promising a presentation that is humorous as well as enlightening.
