This weekend, Red Bull will transform the streets of downtown LA into a drag strip for the Red Bull Soapbox Race. Approximately 40 teams of experienced racers and amateurs will compete in this non-motorized racing event, featuring outrageously designed, human-powered vehicles trying to beat the clock in a downhill competition.
On February 9th three friends and I headed into downtown LA to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Yes, we all knew that the actual holiday was still a few days away, but since Lucha VaVoom was in town, we didn’t want to miss their My Kinky Valentine show at the Mayan Theater.
If you haven’t heard of Lucha VaVoom, it’s a show that combines Mexican wrestling (that’s the “Lucha” part of the name) with burlesque (you guessed it – that’s the “VaVoom”). Lucha VaVoom likes to call it “Sexo Y Violencia”!
Looking for a fun way to get some exercise, perhaps explore a new part of town and support a good cause? Then come on out for the 33rd Annual Firecracker Run / Walk and Bike Ride. Organized by the Los Angeles Firecracker Run Committee, a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting activities beneficial to the Los Angeles Chinatown community, the event will benefit Need2Read, Run/Don’t Walk and a variety of other non-profit community organizations.
