John Bengston Presents at Cinecon 49 and Explores Silent Film Locations

Cinecon 49 opened today in Hollywood and is once again providing archivists, authors, collectors and film fans with the opportunity to celebrate classic films through screenings, celebrity guest appearances and one of the country’s best movie memorabilia shows. A highlight of the five-day celebration is sure to be John Bengston’s presentation titled “Hollywood’s Silent Echoes.”

LA Comedy Shorts Festival is Back!

This evening the 5th Annual LA Comedy Shorts Film Festival and Screen Play Competitionopens in downtown Los Angeles. The four day event features screenings of comedic short films, industry panels and an awards ceremony.

The Second Annual LA Zine Fest is Almost Here!

While the do-it-yourself zine culture has been active and publishing for decades, its growth and popularity have really blossomed during the past several years. A case in point is the LA Zine Fest, which launched last year with over 100 exhibitors and attracted approximately 1,500 attendees.

Moving Image Art Presents – Favorites from Another Experiment By Women Film Festival

This month the Pasadena based film series Moving Image Art (MIA) presents a selection of films from the Another Experiment By Women Film Festival (AXWFF), an event curated by Lili White. The AXWFF screens at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City and promotes the work of experimental films made by women that encourage critical thinking and dialogue.

Los Angeles is one of the world’s great art capitals. While expressions of the energy and creativity associated with this facet of the city’s cultural landscape abound, one of the most satisfying for me is an open studio event. I love seeing art where it was created and making a connection with the artist. It’s a much more personal experience than viewing work on a museum or gallery wall.

The LA Shorts Fest is Back

Today marks the start of the 16th Los Angeles International Short Film Festival (aka LA Shorts Fest). The event features short films from around the world and is one of the largest festivals of its kind. Since the LA Shorts Fest is recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, some of the films presented during the event may receive Oscar nominations. In addition to film screenings, attendees can participate in educational panels and various interactive events.
