Cantor Fine Art is Throwing a Tactile Art Show

PleaseTouchtheArt

Art found in museums and galleries is typically there to be viewed, not touched. That’s what makes the show, Please Touch the Art, so unusual. It’s an exhibition specifically designed to invite tactile interaction with art, thereby encouraging attendees to connect with and experience artistic creations in new ways.

The brainchild of father and son team Larry and Sam Cantor, Please Touch the Art was inspired by a documentary film that they produced, also called Please Touch the Art, which profiles George Wurtzel, a blind artisan who is presented with the first tactile portrait of himself that he could feel and recognize. You can watch this short film below.

The show will feature creations by artists from around the world, including drippy sculptures from Dan Lam, a sculpture of the Mona Lisa that you can “see” with your hands and even an augmented reality sandbox created by researchers at UC Davis and UCLA.
