Post Thanksgiving Family Fun – Animated shorts from the 1940s and 1950s

Skirball-logo
During the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the Skirball Cultural Center hosts its family-friendly program called Last Weekends of the Month. This Saturday and Sunday, you and your family can enjoy screenings of animated shorts from the 1940s and 1950s, inspired by the exhibition Light & Noir: Exiles and Émigrés in Hollywood, 1933–1950. These classic cartoons—featuring Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Bugs Bunny—were specially chosen by noted animation historian Jerry Beck. A Q&A with Beck follows the screening.

While you’re at the Skirball, you can also check out the Light & Noir exhibit, which explores how the experiences of German-speaking exiles and émigrés who fled Nazi Europe influenced the classic films of Hollywood’s Golden Age. I’m really looking forward to visiting that exhibit, since it focuses on many of the finest examples of film noir, such as Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity, and Casablanca.
