Angels Gate Cultural Center Tour and Open Studio Day

This weekend LA Commons is launching Trekking LA 2012, its annual summer series of walking tours. The first tour of the new season is called Angels Gate: A City Within A Park. It will explore Angel’s Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro and will be lead by Angela Romero.

According to LA Commons, “Angela’s tour will take participants back to the time when the area was the upper reservation of Fort MacArthur. Tour goers will also enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views surrounding the Korean Bell and come within arms distance of Seals and Sea Lions as they get rehabilitated at the Marine Mammal Care Center. The walk will end with a rare tour of the art epicenter of San Pedro, Angel’s Gate Cultural Center.”

Immediately following the tour, you can immerse yourself in a wide range of artwork as part of Angels Gate Cultural Center’s annual Open Studio Day. This event features works by 52 artists representing a variety of disciplines, including ceramics, printmaking, music, filmmaking, photography, and writing, among others. You’ll also find works by members of the local community and students at K-12 schools.

Whether you can make the tour and visit the open studios, or just participate in one of these events, the day promises to open your eyes to the creative energies and fascinating history of this vibrant part of Los Angeles. So come gain a new appreciation for San Pedro and celebrate the arts at the same time.
